Chronology of cameras Klopcic
The rare Tropical version of the Klopcic Reporter is a beautiful and heavy camera – it weights well over 3 kg! Quite a challenge for a press camera also meant to be used handheld. The wood is of high quality and the casing has metal reinforcements. The bellows have a nice light brown colour. This camera is designed for 13 x 18 cm plates.
The lens is a Krauss Tessar of 26 cm of focal length and maximum aperture of 5.6. The distance scale at the top of the camera refers only to this lens. The shutter is a Klopcic focal plane derived from the patent of 1921, delivering speeds in the range 1 to 1/2000 plus P. The camera comes with a matching plate magazine.
I assume that if there is no brand on the casing then the camera is a Klopcic. Other brands that 'produced' the camera generally used plates with their names (e.g. E. Lorillon, A. Brunner, S. Berthiot ...). The only references I found on a tropical model are Cabossel & Hude (c. 1930, ‘Appareil de Reportage modèle tropical’) and E. Lorillon (c. 1930, ‘Appareil de Reportage colonial de luxe').
